I'm excited to share something really beautiful and profound with you today that I discovered while hiking up the sacred Mount Inari in Japan.
In the Shinto philosophy, or “way of the gods”, I learned that Inari is revered as the deity of rice, abundant harvest, fertility, success in business, and prosperity.
Mount Inari and the Fushimi Inari shrine is not only a physical location, but also a profound spiritual site that is seen to be the sacred dwelling place of Inari.
The approach to the top of Mount Inari through the famous Fushimi Inari shrine is lined with 10,000 vibrant vermilion torii gates, symbolizing a transition from the mundane world to the sacred realm of Inari at the top of the mountain.
As we climbed the steps leading up the mountain, passing through gate after gate, I was struck by the Japanese characters adorning the gates.
We stopped to translate them …
The back of the gates each have a dedication, with the donor's name etched into it, symbolizing their prayer or wish for good fortune.
But the characters on the front of the gate were more simple …
Two characters:
Service and Allowing.
My husband Miles and I were both so excited when we realized this is what was written on each of the gates.
Service and allowing open the passageway to the mountain of Abundance!
We still have to take the steps …
To put in the work, take action, and climb the steps …
But the gates are open to us.
I realized that these are the very keys that unlock the gates to abundance for each of us.
Service — giving of yourself freely and joyfully to others.
“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” – Zig Ziglar
Allowing — opening your heart to receive the universe's boundless gifts.
“Those who flow as life flows know they need no other force.” -Lao Tzu
The climb up to the top of Mount Inari took about three hours, and I noticed many turned back before reaching the top, and many seemed to be struggling.
This, too, is a reflection of life's journey.
The path to abundance isn't always easy.
It requires perseverance, faith, and a willingness to keep moving forward, even when the climb seems steep.
But here's the beautiful truth: abundance is available to all who choose to walk this path.
Each step you take in service, each moment you allow yourself to receive, you're moving closer to the summit and attainment of that which you seek.
Remember, that you are co-creating your reality.
The torii gates of service and allowing are always open, inviting you to step through. Will you accept the invitation? Will you make the climb?
As you go about your day, I invite you to ask yourself: How can I be of service today? What am I willing to allow into my life?
Let these questions guide you, and watch as the gates of abundance open for you.
