When the moon is full in the sky (as it will be tonight), it is the perfect time to set your crystals out under the moonlight to cleanse and recharge them!

If you haven’t ever tried this, it really is one of the most powerful ways to charge up crystals, and if you’re like me you will be able to visibly notice a difference (they’re so much shinier after their moon bath)…

The Full Moon is also the perfect opportunity to make some moonlight water to drink so you can cleanse and charge yourself up too!

What is Full Moon Water?

Full Moon Water

Moonlight water, or Full Moon Water is essentially just water that you set outside under the light of the Full Moon to “charge”.

You’ll want to be sure that you use spring or purified water so that it’s free from added chemicals or impurities, and you will also want to store your water in a glass container so there is no plastic residue leeching into it!

Once you have purified or spring water in a glass container, just set it outside on the night of the Full Moon! You can find a special place for it if you would like, or place your crystals, incense or herbs around it… The important part is just to get the water outside under the light of the moon. If it’s cloudy, raining outside, or you only have a windowsill to use which doesn’t really get direct moonlight it will still work, just not quite as well. But don’t let that stop you!

How to Make Moonlight Water…

Full Moon Water

Place your jug or bottle of water outside and as the water sits out under the light of the Full Moon it becomes activated.

I don’t have any clever scientific research to share with you as to how, or why this works… I can just tell you from my personal experience and my intuition that it does!

As the water sits out under the light of the moon it water soaks up the energy of nature along with the light and magic of the Full Moon.

Then, tomorrow morning (or the morning after the Full Moon if you read this a bit after I post it) go outside to gather up your crystals and bring in your Moonlight water.

I usually drink it right away. It feels and tastes amazing, and to me different to from normal water. It's like water awakened, and it's cleansing, spiritually recharging, energizing… And really quite magical!

If you make more than one bottle of Full Moon water, you can use it to water your plants, add a little to your baths, or use it to make an essential oil spray, or make tea with it.

I’ll go out on a limb and say that with the right intention, making and drinking moonlight water can boost your psychic and spiritual abilities, promote healing, and even increase your creativity. After all it’s water, and so it’s impressionable, and your intention is key.

When you set out your water out to sit under the moonlight, place an intention for what you want to create, release, or tune into. Imagine the water absorbing the light and power of nature, of the Divine and of the moon and when you drink it…. Enjoy!

  1. I’ve read this article & looked at all the comments, but I can’t see if you put a lid on your glass water container. Plz answer this question.

  2. When making moon water , do you cover the top with anything to keep the bugs from getting into it ? If so what? Would a Mason jar work an the metal lid that cines with it ?

  3. I did this the other night. I put a label on the bottle that says “Grateful”. I drew a bath and meditated with the bottle over my heart about all of things I am grateful for. I drank the water and within moments my stomach started hurting. I have not eaten yet. I had to get out of the bath and urgently relieve myself. I apologize if this is too graphic. Its just that I am trying to understand what is happening. It feels like I am purging (I’d like to note that the last two years have been very difficult, terminal diagnosis, bitter divorce, etc.) Do you have any input? Thank you so much 😊

      1. I’d love to make some moon water but confused on the night to put it out.. it says the eve of the full moon.. so is that the night that it turns full then sets or the night it’s actually full.. 😣

  4. I tried making moon water for the first time yesterday this morning I put it into the fridge I’ve looked all over the Internet tried making moon water for the first time yesterday this morning I put it into the fridge I’ve looked all over the Internet and not one website can give me the answer to this question. Is it OK to put it into the fridge?

  5. Last night was the first time I tried placing water out under the full moon eclipse in Aquarius. I just placed bottled water out in their original plastic bottles because I hadn’t read your instructions on placing it in a glass container. This morning the water was grey. The bottles had never been opened before. Any insight as to why this happened. I don’t dare use it.

  6. I work in emergency response and abhor full moons. But, in all honesty, if I set out a canning jar full of water at night, I’d have several dead bugs in it by morning.

  7. I remember, when we were kids, elders in the family would arrange a feast on a full moon day.My mom or my granny would gather all kids in the family and serve food into our hands and we would all relish and eagerly await for the full moon day.

  8. Is it ok to put the bottles inside in front of a large window, like on the seat of a bay window? I did that because I didn’t want the water to freeze.

  9. Yes Melanie last night I put my crystals and water jug crystals around the jug and clean myself and my house with sage the first think in the morning I drink that water .thank you Melanie is always a bless to get you emails Namaste
